Green Box Shop was started as a tiny business in April 2016 with the workspace being the founder's Kayla Robinson's, 800 sq ft apartment. Kayla was inspired after realizing that even after her most galant efforts, she couldn't find any "bold social justice tees" and decided to make them herself. She ended up making and selling them in order to "raise money for her yoga instructor certification". But Kayla decided that wasn't big enough. With some support from her friends, Kayla and her team have created a business dedicated to not only providing its customers with great fashion choices, but also making sure that customers are spreading awareness on various issues. For example, The t-shirt that brought them wide-spread fame was the "Why be racist, sexist, homophobic, or transphobic, when you could just be quiet?" It all started when Frank Ocean wore that shirt to one of his performances. Then, they blew up. Of course with the massive increase in orders it was overwhelming, but they prevailed. Their products are so popular that there are companies left and right copying their famous "Why be racist..." design and selling it as their own. But, Green Box Shop doesn't let that stop them from continuing to sell more and more and being extremely successful. Green Box Shop's success has made being "woke" or socially aware the latest craze, and will continue to do so for a long time.
